PRK is right choice for an educated patient
PRK is not LASIK. LASIK is not the same as PRK. Intralase is not the same as PRK. PRK is not RK. PRK is photorefractive keratectomy. It is now also referred to as ASA or Advanced Surface Ablation. This procedure uses the SAME LASER as LASIK but is able to provide correction much closer to the anterior surface of the eye. In the past, PRK got a bench seat so LASIK could play. Now, as patients take the time to get educated, and good doctors provide that education, many more people are talking about PRK. We know it is safe. We don’t have to deal with a ‘flap’ What part of a ‘flap’ on your eye sounds good? If you are contemplating laser refractive surgery, force someone to talk to you about ALL your options, including PRK. Feel free to post questions or comments if you have them.
